Privacy
Very little, kept briefly.
Last updated October 31, 2026.
- No accounts, no email, no names of people. A Team Desk holds venue names, places, session names and times, and its conditions log. A lightning clock holds its label and press times.
- Private links. A desk's key is stored only as a salted hash; your browser keeps the key in a secure cookie. The link carries the key after a # so it never reaches the server's logs.
- Field checks are not saved with you. The point you check (a ZIP code centre or a rounded latitude, longitude) is sent to the National Weather Service to fetch its forecast, and the forecast is cached for everyone for up to 45 minutes.
- "Use my location" asks your browser for your position only when you press it, and only fills the box; nothing is sent until you press Check.
- Addresses are counted for rate limits as a salted hash, kept 2 days. Server logs are kept 30 days.
- Cookies: one for the desk key (if you have a desk), and one for form protection (CSRF). No tracking cookies, no analytics services, no outside fonts. The public pages show one banner ad from adengine.us, described under Advertising; it is the only outside service any page loads, and it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.
- Payments (when checkout opens) are handled by PayPal; Sideline Sky would receive only the subscription status, never card details.
Advertising
The public pages of Sideline Sky (home, the field check and its forecasts, how the numbers work, pricing and about) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Lightning clocks, Team Desk pages, this page and the terms show none, and the banner always sits below a forecast, never inside it.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. It is not sent the page address, so the place you checked never reaches it.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
